Located on the edge of the Camber Sands dunes, this tired coastal property was no longer fulfilling its potential as a modern beach retreat.
Mullery Architects was appointed to reimagine the home through a sensitive yet bold extension and renovation, transforming it into a contemporary coastal escape with generous living spaces, improved functionality, and a stronger connection to its stunning setting.
The design centred on a contemporary two-storey side extension supported by new single-storey front and rear additions. Together these interventions created a spacious open-plan ground floor, a large master suite, and additional guest accommodation across both levels.
Internally, the layout was completely reworked to introduce flowing, sociable living spaces tailored for hosting and family life.
Bespoke joinery, a hidden laundry space, and a window seat overlooking the dunes add character and practicality throughout.
Western Red Cedar cladding was applied to three elevations, giving the home a clean, modern coastal aesthetic that weathers beautifully in its seaside environment.
The completed renovation delivers a true contemporary beach house — warm, open, and designed for relaxation.
Expansive views towards the dunes can be enjoyed from both the interior and the new terrace, while the re-landscaped rear garden provides sheltered outdoor areas for lounging and cooking away from the coastal winds.
