This new build 5 bedroom dwelling sits within a size-able plot, surrounded by a dense screen of mature foliage. The new dwelling mediates the open spaces across the site to reduce the impact on the retained trees and planting.
The dwelling is laid out across two storeys and follows a Z-shaped plan. On the northern end of the plan, an integrated double garage, storage room and plant room are located, where access to direct sunlight is limited. On the north-west side of the property sleeping accommodation is split across both storeys and bedrooms are directed towards the garden where possible. The central and south-west spaces are single storey and feature the main entrance (with feature staircase), a gallery corridor (that wraps around a central courtyard) and a series of open and semi-open plan living spaces.
The building will be constructed in part using prefabricated timber or SIPS panels, which will achieve a high level of insulation.
Renewable heating sources will also be explored, featuring either ground-source or air-source heat pump technology, which can be up to 4 times more efficient that conventional space heating.
Other green building technologies will be explored, including mechanical heat recovery, photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting, with the ambition to make the development as self-sufficient as possible.
