We have designed a small yet effective rear extension to this character arts and crafts property. Whilst the existing property is generously proportioned, the kitchen is on the small side and is not fit for 21st century living. We have designed an extension that triples the size of the kitchen and provides space for a large utility and storage area.
Achieving a harmonious relationship between the complex geometry that already features at the rear and the new elements was a challenging but rewarding exercise. Following a series of explorative digital 3D models, it was decided the existing pitched roofline should be extended upwards and outwards as we felt this form helped to balance the asymmetrical rear elevation. The pitched structure is counter balanced by a flat roof structure with large skylight to provide plenty of natural daylight into the new kitchen area below.
