Our approach to this project was to combine separate kitchen, dining and living spaces into a single space for entertaining friends and family. It was also important to strengthen the connection between the interior and the mature tree lined garden to the rear.
Our solution was to design a single storey extension with gabled roof pitches that relate formally to the existing property. The extension is vaulted in two areas to create an interesting sculptural internal space. The added height internally allowed us to introduce tall windows which improve natural daylighting levels and provide generous views of the mature trees beyond. The project also involved the extension of the first floor to create an additional bedroom with en-suite bathroom and to enlarge an existing bedroom.
The extension has been wrapped in dark cladding boards to complement the dark red tones of the existing brick and roof tiles. The cladding material was followed through across the front elevation to reduce the volume of red brickwork on show.
