This attractive ‘Arts and Crafts’ style house has poorly extended to the rear, so we were asked to design a new open plan living space with improved natural daylighting levels and one that has a strong physical and visual connection with the garden.
The property benefits from a large attic space that will be converted into a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and dressing room. A dormer roof extension with juliet balcony creates space of generous proportions and with long views over the garden and beyond. A triangular window has been added to the cheek of the dormer to provide a view of the sea.
Natural timber cladding was chosen for both the dormer and ground floor extension, to give the rear a unified aesthetic, whilst also offering a modern yet respectful contrast to the existing house.
A detached garage was also converted into a home office as part of this project. The works are underway and a due to be complete in the spring of 2022.
